ADMISSION POLICY
NOVEMBER 2001

Introduction

Westcott is a Church of England controlled school serving the villages of Westcott, Ashendon and Woodham, although children from out of this area are more than welcome to apply. The intended admission number is 10. The school can have a maximum of 55 pupils.

Pupils come from a wider area due to the schools excellent reputation.

Westcott is a small, friendly, school where a family atmosphere is fostered. We aim to provide a sound preparation for life in a stimulating learning environment. The children are encouraged to read to their full potential through opportunity to develop high self esteem. High standards are expected from everyone associated with the school.

Aims of the school.

These are:

1. To provide an environment in which each child may develop intellectually, emotionally, spiritually and physically to the best of their ability and to help them reach their full potential.

2. To make the school a happy and caring environment in which the children can make the best of themselves

Criteria for admission to Westcott C of E School.

Where there are more applications than places, application will be considered against the following criteria:

1 Resident in the catchment area of Westcott, Ashendon and Woodham .

2 Family connections where siblings are already within the school.

3 Parents who attend church regularly and wish their children to be
educated in a Church of England School.

4 Emotional reasons, i.e. children who would benefit from a small, secure, environment, where they would receive more individual atttention.

5 A child who already attends the nursery attached to the school.

The Governors recognise that some parents may find it difficult to apply under the above criteria and therefore they would be prepared to be sympathetic to specific cases that parents may wish to make.

Arrangements for visits.

Every child will be given the opportunity to visit the school on at least two occasions before the start of their first term. Each visit takes place during the school day.

The first visit consists of an informal discussion regarding the school policies and the school curriculum and also gives an opportunity for the parents and children to visit all areas of the school.

On subsequent visits children will spend the morning in their new clas. Other visits are welcome, but should be made by appointment.
